We raise Basset Hounds. We currently have seven bassets. We have five females and two male. we have one female and one male that have had two liters. one liter produced just two basset pups and we decided to keep them together and keep them here with us.
Shake A Paw wants to bring you and one of our loveable puppies together. We have two locations on Long Island in Hicksville and Lynbrook, both conveniently located off major highways and roads and near LIRR train stations. So while the experience of owning a new puppy will be an adventure, getting to a Shake A Paw near you won’t be.
We have been a member of the Basset Hound Club of America since 1995. Our outdoor kennel is sand with comfortable insulated housing, shade during the hot Summer days and heating for the younger pups during the Winter. Whelping is done inside our home so we can watch and assist Mom & babies as needed. They are then introduced to the outside kennel at approximately 6 weeks of age, depending on the litter size and outdoor conditions.

We are one of only a few Basset Hound breeders in the United States that does genetic DNA testing on our Bassets for hereditary diseases. My wife and I started this hobby about 33 years ago and now that we have retired it has turn into a full time Job. I think it’s more likely we are just getting older. We will only have two or three litters a year, so what we don’t have is a lot of dogs or puppies. What we do have is Great Quality pups with very, very good Pedigrees

We have loved and raised basset hounds for 15 years and take the blessing of having these fantastic animals very seriously. They are first and foremost our pets, and family …. living in our home … which is where the puppies live out there time with us. Never exposed to outdoors at all to protect them from contagious disease. We work very closely with our veterinarian . Excellent health and temperament are what we strive for with our puppies as well as our dogs. We raise European and American basset hounds but most of our litters are half or full European ,with occasional American litters.
